So this week I have a birthday - April 6th. Instead of the usual way that I celebrate (which involves me trying to forgive my husband for the latest gift he has forgotten to get or gotten but is so not my taste that I wonder if he thinks I am a 13 year old girl) my mother decided to send me flowers! This year even my husband also managed to do a great shopping job (thanks to amazon wishlist).
Since I am so far away from the rest of my family, its usually hard to do birthdays and what ends up happening is the once a year that we do actually see each other we all exchange gifts and other things of interest. So the fact that my mother managed to organize the flower sending to actually correspond with my birthday was an amazing feat in and of itself. And she was even nice enough to give credit to the rest of the family (as if they had any idea she was sending flowers :-/ ) which was nice of her.
The only drawback is that this year (the only year I have gotten flowers for my birthday) I don't get to enjoy them. My hubby and I are off to Borneo for Easter this year. I am not trying to sound like I am complaining about being stuck between something great and something greater, so I hope this doesn't sound like that. But it would have been nice to have my flowers for more than a day. Granted - my mother being the greatest - tried to change the delivery day (once she found out we were going to be away) but in the end the fact we live in Hong Kong screwed it up. The online booking company got the change, but the flower company didn't.
In the end I gave the flowers to a friend of mine - - who probably enjoyed them as much or more than I would have. So I decided that this year on my birthday I have paid it forward. Hopefully my friend will do the dame (pay it forward) so that someone else gets to have a great day also. I am happy to be sitting at the airport, eating a cookie and relaxing before going on holiday with the best husband in the world - even if he can't pick out presents on his own- he is still the best!
